Meditation is Mainstream

Meditation is no longer just an Eastern religious practice reserved for monks or confined to ashrams or monasteries. When the Beatles went to India in 1986, the Western world took notice and Transcendental Mediation was introduced to a wide audience. In 1994, the mega-bestseller Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn brought mindfulness meditation to a Western audience and encouraged people to cultivate a deeper connection to themselves and the world. Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now later in the 1990’s also promoted meditation as the path to anchor in the present moment, recognizing that identifying with the mind causes people to fixate on the past or the future. Power lies in being in the now.

Our Meditation Gardens consist of eight separate stages of spiritual awakening and the journey of unfolding higher consciousness. It is also possible to see these stages as The Hero’s Journey. Taking time at each location or resting in the central open space is meant to help reconnect to self, and take a break from the chaos of everyday life.

“The gardens offer room to gather, room to meditate and find peaceful moments to reflect upon.
Be sure to visit during the day to experience the Labyrinth, which is an amazing model of the Chartres Labyrinth in France.”
